ATLANTA-A partnership between locally based companies Columbia Residential and Orinda Corp., and the Historic District Development Corp. is converting an historic building on Auburn Avenue into 112 loft residences and 18 loft offices.

The project is located in the heart of the Old Fourth Ward between Edgewood and Irwin Avenues. Units will range in size from 760 to 2,100 sf and will be priced from the mid-$100,000s. Officials with the partnership could not be reached for more information.

The project is the latest phase of development for Studioplex. The buildings that comprise the project were originally constructed as a cotton warehouse facility in 1906. The project, which also includes 28 retail galleries, is part of plans to redevelop the Martin Luther King district. The neighborhood, the birthplace of the civil rights leader, has evolved into a live, work and play district. It is close to the King Center and to Interstates 75, 80 and 20 and the proposed Atlanta Beltline rail system. It is also in close proximity to the bars and shops on Highland Avenue.

The loft units will feature 12-foot to 17-foot ceilings, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and exposed brick walls. Sales and marketing of the units are exclusively handled by Coldwell Banker the Condo Store in cooperation with David Patton/Prudential Georgia Realty.
