ALAMEDA, CA-Catellus Development Group is hoping the US GreenBuilding Council will certify the entire Alameda Landing mixed-usedevelopment as sustainable--instead of just the buildings--as partof the Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design forNeighborhoods pilot program. Catellus is the master developer ofthe 81-acre former US Navy Fleet Industrial Supply Center on theAlameda waterfront.

Located on Oakland's inner harbor, the site is slated to hold upto 300,000 sf of new retail development, 400,000 sf of offices and300 single-family homes and townhomes. The master plan for AlamedaLanding is designed to encourage walking and cycling. Demolitionwork at the site is expected to begin this summer, with delivery ofthe first phase of office and retail buildings planned for late2008.
