WINSTON-SALEM, NC-Wake Forest University Health Sciences (WFUHS) has inked a deal to take 24,888 sf of space at Wachovia Center. The class A office asset sits at 100 N. Main St.

With the transaction, a total of 74 employees from the administrative group of WFUHS’ Division of Public Health Sciences and part of the division’s department of biostatistical sciences will call the 535,000-sf property home. The contiguous space is spread across the 22nd and 23rd floors.

Jenkintown, PA-based American Financial Realty Trust owns the property. A spokesman declined to release the lease terms, including the length and rates. He tells WFHUS has scheduled a May move-in, staggered over two weeks.

The employees will be relocating from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center’s MRI Building. WFHUS is part of the medical center.

“Wake Forest Health Sciences needed a large block of space and access to a wealth of on-site parking,” Rick Eiseman, vice president of asset management for AFRT, explains in a statement. “The Wachovia Center, with its open floor plans and on-site parking, provided the perfect combination. We are pleased to accommodate their user requirements and welcome them as a tenant.”

Cindy Christopher of Meridian Realty led AFRT’s brokerage team. Graydon Pleasants of Pleasants Properties repped WFUHS.

With the signing of this lease, Wachovia Tower has 148,261 sf of vacant space. Wachovia Tower was built in 1995 as Wachovia’s headquarters. AFRT acquired the 28-story property, which is the tallest building in Winston-Salem, in 2004 as part of a larger portfolio deal with Wachovia.
