The test case involved a dilapidated mall with environmentalissues in Chicagoland, with options being to sell, redevelop orscrape. Further complicating the decision was the asset's locationin a bad section of the city. George Sakakeeny with locally basedChampion Partners was the case author and presented the "real deal"at the competition's conclusion.

The UT Austin winning team consisted of Amy Sta. Maria, NurithGalonsky, Luis Castellanos, Richard Roberts, Ammanuel Metta andDavid Childress. The Southern Methodist University's team coppedsecond place, earning $7,500 for the Cox School of Business. TexasChristian University's team took the $5,000 prize. Also competingwere teams from Rice University and the University of NorthTexas.

The North Texas NAIOP chapter has the largest number of SIORmembers of its counterparts in the country. In addition toSakakeeny, judges included Doug Johnson with IDI Inc., Ronald Bergwith PlainsCapital Bank, Rob Huthnance with ProLogis, SherylPickens with Transwestern, Peter Billipp with Panattoni DevelopmentCo. and David Cunningham with Granite Properties.
