CB Richard Ellis recently announced a goal to become carbonneutral by 2010 and a plan to assist clients with energy efficiencyprograms at the 1.7 billion sf of building space the companymanages. CBRE also says it's working with the Natural ResourcesDefense Council to introduce new energy saving measures atclient-owned and occupied properties.

"Our decision is driven by our desire to do the right thing, butis also a direct result of a rapidly evolving marketplace," saysCBRE president/CEO Brett White. "A large number of our clients—bothproperty owners and occupiers—are already actively working toreduce energy costs and create greener space. We see a greatopportunity to partner with them to improve their operationalperformance and help protect the climate at the same time.

"The relationship with NRDC will help us uncover new ideas," hesays. "Energy use in buildings is responsible for 40% of U.S.global warming emissions, according to NRDC, which has spent overtwo decades on energy issues and had a hand in creating andimproving efficiency standards at state and Federal levels."
