The store, located not far from an existing Food Circus-ownedSuper Foodtown unit in Red Bank, will be the 10th store owned andoperated by the Middletown-based company. Food Circus, whose storesare all in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex counties in Central NewJersey, is part of the Avenel-based Foodtown cooperative.
The previous Stop & Shop store has been remodeled andremerchandised, according to Joseph Azzolina Sr., president of FoodCircus and a long-time state assemblyman. Details of theacquisition of the property were not released.
The opening follows Food Circus' closure of its store in OceanTownship, which was replaced by a Spirits Unlimited liquor storeoperated by an affiliated company. Food Circus has also announcedplans to open a Super Foodtown in 2008 on Route 35 in nearbyHazlet.
