PITTSBURGH-Walnut Capital Partners has broken ground for BakerySquare, a $113-million mixed-use development at the site of theformer Nabisco baking plant at the intersection of 10th Avenue andEast Liberty Boulevard in the East Liberty neighborhood. Limiteddemolition has been completed at the site, but most of the existingbuildings will remain and be redeveloped and converted, accordingto Anthony Dolan, a partner and principal of the locally baseddevelopment company.

The plan calls for 216,000 sf of office space and 173,000 sf ofretail, a parking garage for approximately 900 vehicles and a110-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott Hotel. Bakery Square isbeing constructed to LEED green building standards.
