IRVINE, CA-Coastal California regions like Orange County are always considered a good long-term bet for investing in commercial real estate, but one of the biggest questions on the mind of industry professionals today is how long and how severely the recession will continue to drag down the market’s performance. Answering those questions will be the focus of RealShare Orange County conference and networking event on Aug. 27 from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, which will focus on what to look for at the end of 2009 and where to find the opportunities in 2010. The event is expected to draw 200 or more industry leaders and professionals.

Colleen McShane, group conference manager for the RealShare series of events, tells GlobeSt.com that the RealShare Orange County agenda this year “has been trimmed down to focus on the main topics that are of interest for Orange County.” Distressed assets are expected to be a theme running throughout the conference, which will include a special presentation on marketing distressed properties.

McShane points out that with the changes in the market due to the recession, the sessions at this year’s RealShare Orange County will focus on the best strategies for today’s conditions. The office market panel, for example, will focus on asset management, property management and other related topics.

The conference will begin with registration and continental breakfast from 7:30 a.m to 8:30 a.m., when Daniel Ceniceros, vice president for strategic development at Incisive Media, will kick off the day’s events with opening remarks. The first event will be an 8:35 a.m. Town Hall Meeting titled “The State of the Orange County Market and Outlook for 2010.”

Panelists will include John Combs, founder and principal of River Rock Real Estate Group Inc.; Jeff Manley, managing principal at CresaPartners; John Strockis, executive managing director at Voit Real Estate Services and managing director Cindy Burgerof CB Richard Ellis.

Following an 11 a.m. networking break, senior vice president Paul Lyons of BigBidder.com will deliver a presentation titled, “Stop the Insanity: Alternative Marketing Strategies for Distressed Assets.” Lyons will be followed by the last session of the day, a panel on workouts and restructuring that will be titled, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”
