JERSEY CITY-The city’s partners in a long-stalled project torevitalize Journal Square with up to1,500 new housing units and extensive retail on a site adjacent tothe PATH station will not meet an April 1 deadline for gettingshovels in the ground, and have asked for another year to makegood, Jersey City officials tell GlobeSt.com. The JerseyCity Redevelopment Agency chief says the answer isprobably no.

“As a public-private partnership, this one has not been veryproductive,” says JRCA executive director, BobAntonicello. “At this point, the request for an additionalyear on top of what has already been six years is a very difficultpill to swallow.”

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy backed up theJCRA chief with this statement: “The redevelopment of JournalSquare is a major priority for this administration and we supportany and all actions that the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency takesso that construction may begin as soon as possible.”
