LONG BEACH, CA-Goods movement industry expertsand executives convened Wednesday in downtown Long Beach and saidthere is a growing sense of optimism for cargo's upcoming “peakseason,” the time of year when international trade traditionallyramps up from mid-summer into fall. The eighth annual “Pulse of thePorts—Peak Season Forecast” conference hosted by the Portof Long Beach examined the trends and expectations ininternational trade.
A panel of representatives from across the supply chain told theaudience of about 400 people at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach thatcustomers who ship cargo internationally are looking forward to abusier year this year compared to 2011. In addition, panelists saidthat Southern California ports are well prepared with thefacilities, labor force and customer service to accommodate theincrease.
“Importers are optimistic and they believe sales will increasethis year. And they are excited about it,” explained DanielR. Wall, senior vice president ofExpeditors, a logistics firm.
