NEW YORK CITY-During its first quarter earnings call, officialsfrom Brookfield Office Properties toldshareholders that 1.1 million square feet of new leases were signedportfolio-wide, net operating income showed gains and nearly 900units of apartments could be in the works for Manhattan’s Far WestSide. With that, the company brought on PhilipWharton – formerly of AvalonBayCommunities – as senior vice president of development forUS commercial operations, where he will oversee Brookfield’s10-million-square-foot development pipeline.

Wharton, a 30-year veteran of commercial real estatedevelopment, talked with GlobeSt.com about the company's latestprogress at the 5.4-million-square-foot Manhattan West site, andother core markets across the globe.
