TRENTON-Panasonic Corp. chairman and CEOJoseph M. Taylor will receive a top leadershipaward from New Jersey Future for moving to build anew LEED Platinum headquarters for his company in atransit-oriented redevelopment area in downtown Newark.

The 25-year-old organization is to honor Taylor, and seven SmartGrowth Award-winning projects and plans at a June 7 dinner at theNewark Club.

The project winners announced Thursday include:

  • Ironstate Development, Minno &Wasko Architects and Planners, and PegasusGroup for the first residential development adjacent tothe Harrison PATH station in Hudson County.
  • The partners working on Gateway Transit Village in NewBrunswick, Middlesex County, who include the New BrunswickDevelopment Corp. and Parking Authority, stateEconomic Development Authority andPennrose Properties.
  • Alberto & Associates, the Boroughof Somerdale, and National Realty &Development for the transformation of a shopping center inSomerdale, Camden County.
  • Brown & Keener, the Town ofHammonton, Main Street Hammonton, andthe Land Use Center at the College of New Jerseyfor creating an innovative alternative to traditional zoning inAtlantic County.
  • Passaic County, the Association of NJEnvironmental Commissions, Canal Society ofNJ, Morris Canal Greenway FeasibilityStudy, and the Louis Berger Group for anopen-space preservation plan involving six communities.
  • Jersey City Redevelopment Authority,St. Peter’s College, Trinity ChoiceCommunities and the University-Neighborhood CenterRevitalization organization (Hudson County) for theMcGinley Square redevelopment plan.

Panasonic’s Taylor is being singled out for the Cary EdwardsLeadership Award, which is named for a late former assemblyman andstate attorney general who played a key role in passage of theState Planning Act in 1987. The award recognizes individuals whohave made an outstanding commitment to improving the quality oflife and promoting smart growth in New Jersey through sustainableland-use policy and practice.
