MIAMI—Midtown Miami is getting one step closerto seeing a Walmart in its midst. Walmart has filed a Class IISpecial Permit Application with the city to open a new storethere.

Construction of the Midtown Miami Walmartretail store will create about 400 constructionjobs and 350 retail positions. Pending cityapproval, a hiring center will open in 2013. A store wouldtentatively open in 2014.

“One of the things that's changed for Walmart is that we'vebecome more flexible in our approach to neighborhoods,”Steven Restivo, Sr. director of Community Affairsfor Walmart, tells GlobeSt.com. “Midtown and Wynwood are two of themore dynamic neighborhoods in South Florida and in addition toproviding jobs and affordable groceries, our store is designed tobe a reflection of the surrounding community.”
