NEW YORK CITY—Showing considerable wear-and-tear, the PortAuthority Bus Terminal is getting a makeover.

"The functionally obsolete facility no longer meets thetransportation needs of the hundreds of thousands of riders thatpass through the terminal every day," says executive director PatFoye and deputy executive director Deborah Gramiccioni in a jointstatement. "The Port Authority is committed to identifyingcomprehensive improvements to within the context of its existingCapital Plan."

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey commissioners haverecommended spending $90 million to improve on-time bus operations,fix leaky ceilings and create a response team for heating and airconditioning issues at the 64-year-old depot. However, moresignificant repairs are in store for the terminal.
