IRVINE, CA—As GlobeSt.com reported recently, Shopoff RealtyInvestments has hired seasoned real estate professionalJoseph Reed as VP of landacquisition. In his 27-year career, Reed has led theorigination of nearly 200 transactions with a total aggregate valuein excess of $1 billion in equity-and debt structures, and hasmanaged more than $1 billion in institutional-capital andprivate-equity investments. We spoke with Reed to discuss his plansand goals in his new role and some of the greatest challenges andopportunities he sees in land acquisition.

GlobeSt.com: What are your goals in your new role atShopoff?

Reed: My goal is in line with thecompany's, which is to acquire properties within the coastal areasof California. We look for underutilized properties and try to findthe highest and best use for those properties where we can addvalue and create a spread between our purchase and ourdisposition.
