LOS ANGELES—The Killefer FlammangArchitects-designed Janet L. WitkinCenter has opened its doors. Located at 937 N. FairfaxAve. in West Hollywood, the 17-unit multifamilydevelopment will serve local low-income andformerly homeless senior residents in the area.
The five-story property was under development five years. Theproperty has 17 one-bedroom apartment units and two communityrooms, as well as a courtyard and open walkways for outdoor space.KFA designed the property with green building standards, whichearned a LEED certification. The building exteriorhas tone porcelain tiles and metal panels. Supervisor ZevYaroslavsky described the exterior at the grand openingevent, saying, “The handsome exterior design creates a strikingfocal point on Fairfax Ave., enhancing and enlivening this majorthoroughfare.”
Because the property serves formerly homeless seniors andlow-income residents, the design is also intended to increaseneighbor interaction through a year-round community garden and asocial front porch that connects the property to the streetfront.
