WASHINGTON, DC—The General ServicesAdministration is seeking replacement leases for a numberof agencies in 2016, including:

  • 575,000 square feet for the Department of Justice'sDrug Enforcement Agency, which is currently at 600-700Army Navy Dr., in Arlington, in a lease that expires in September2018. DEA has trimmed its space per employee to the bone and willmaintain its current office utilization rate of 116 per square feetper person and overall utilization rate of 192 per square feet perperson.

  • 511,000 square feet for the Social SecurityAdministration, currently housed at 1500 and 1718 WoodlawnDr., in Woodlawn, MD. The agency plans to scale back its office andoverall utilization rates from 198 to 102 per square feet and 297to 163 per square feet, respectively, for a 41% reduction of space,or 362,203 square feet, from its current occupancy. Its leases inWoodlawn expire in 2018.

  • 115,000 square feet for the Department ofState employees currently at 2121 Virginia Ave., NW.

  • 105,000 square feet for the Federal ElectionCommission, which is currently at 999 E St., NW. Reducingoffice and utilization rates will allow the commission to trim itsspace by 23%, or 31,957 square feet.

  • 97,000 square feet for the Department of VeteransAffairs, currently at 801 Eye St., NW. Right now there arethree offices at that location. One of the offices will berelocated into federally owned space, while one of the tworemaining offices, the Office of the Inspector General, will expandby 22% to address the issue of patient wait times.

  • 43,000 square feet for the Army Corp. ofEngineers, currently housed at 10 South Howard St., inBaltimore. It is trimming its space by 19%, or 33,332 squarefeet.
