ASM Lithography, a Netherlands-based maker of equipment used in the manufacturing of semiconductors, is building a 119,000-sf training center next to its North American headquarters at 8555 S. River Pkwy. The new center will include a 20,000-sf clean room. The training facility will be used to demonstrate the company's high-tech equipment to customers, specifically stepper camera equipment.

The center should be completed by early 2002.

The 324-acre ASU Research Park was carved out of former farmland in the mid-1980s. It has slowly filled over the years, becoming a popular spot for high-tech companies. The park is at the southeast corner of Elliot and McClintock roads. Motorola and Intel both have extensive manufacturing operations in the Tempe/Chandler area.

Ryan Cos., which also built the company headquarters, has been hired to be the general contractor on the project.
