OCONOMOWOC, WI-General Growth Properties is teaming up with a master-planned community developer here to build a one-million-sf open-air retail center. The development, called Pabst Farms Town Centre, will be part of the 1,500-acre Pabst Farms community.

Pabst Farms Town Centre is planned for department stores and a multi-screen theater, as well as upscale shops and restaurants. The open-air center will also have outdoor space for civic and community events and include plazas and fountains.

This will be Chicago-based General Growth's fourth Wisconsin center. The company currently owns Fox River Mall, in Appleton; Mayfair, in Wauwatosa; and Oakwood Mall, in Eau Claire.

Pabst Farms Town Centre is the second retail project planned for the overall master-planned site. Last summer the Pick 'n Save grocer-anchored Market Place at Pabst Farms opened, featuring service retail. The overall Pabst Farms site is being developed by Peter Paul Bell. Besides retail it will have 1,200 residences and five million sf of office, healthcare and industrial space when completed in phases during the next few years.

General Growth owns about 200 retail properties in 22 states. Other developments the REIT is currently working on include the Bridges at Mint Hill in North Carolina; Pinnacle Hills Promenade, in Rogers, AR; and Summerlin Centre in Las Vegas.
