The News says that Atlanta, GA businessman Glenn Ford received incentives last week from the Birmingham city council for the future building, which will be at 31 First Ave. Groundbreaking is scheduled for October. N. Patrick Murphy, who heads economic development for the Birmingham Business Alliance, was quoted as saying he had been recruiting Green Solar to the area for 18 months.
Ford said though his family had owned the Birmingham site for years, six cities were considered for the project. Ford, a native of Birmingham, said the decision was made partly because of the city council's incentive package and partly because he wanted to do business in the city where he was born.
