The project includes the demolition of the current 39,500-square-foot city hall at nearby 2614 Kenhill Dr. The additional space in the new building is necessary to house the police station, which currently operates out of two modular units on the city hall site. Manekin did not return a call to GlobeSt.com in time for publication.

The City of Bowie launched the process--which included a period of deliberation over leasing new space or expanding the current property--in 2007 with the selection of Arcadis to provide project management, design review and construction management. The search for a general contractor included bids from 27 contractors that were eventually winnowed down to Manekin Construction.
