Amateur Hour
I've been biting my lip over the last few weeks, holding back from commenting on the rhetoric going on in Washington over the debt ceiling and the threats that the impasse may lead to a default by the federal government on its financial obligations with an inability to pay its bills. Last night was the final straw as President Barack Obama, on prime-time national television, warned in his starkest terms yet that the US is on the brink of a default that could trigger an economic upheaval. House Speaker John Boehner responded, again on prime-time TV, by dismissing not only the President's approach, but virtually his entire record in office. The highly visible public discourse, back-biting, and open threats of imminent economic calamity is an amateur hour of the first order. I expect that, when all is said and done, the bureaucrats will raise the debt ceiling a few trillion here or there, hike taxes on a select few, hug each other, and turn back to fundraising for their next re-election campaigns. God bless America.
