As our economy tries without much success to gain traction toward a true recovery, Washington politicians on both sides of the aisle continue their partisan politics and are failing to deal with high-stakes issues. Overlay that with the upcoming election year, which all but insures that Washington will not focus on any critical economic issues. Witness, for example, Congress's inability to resolve an extension of tax cut legislation – faced with a lack of agreement, the Senate approved a two-month extension. Americans are tired of Washington's short-term fixes and gimmicks, and now we observe Congress establishing tax policy two months at a time. Congress's approval rating is sliding to single digits and along with it, consumer confidence is again heading south. All of this translates to bad news on the jobs front. But by the way…happy holidays.
