HONOLULU-Construction is set to start on a Safeway-anchored retail center on Kauai during Q2 2012. The Garden Island reported that Safeway Inc. first announced its plans for the shopping center, called Hokulei Village, on a 22-acre site in Puhi near Lihue in 2008.

But the plans were put on hold in 2010 due to economic downturn. The newspaper reported that according to the company officials, the project was delayed, in part, by the multi-phased widening of Kaumualii Highway on Kauai. For the full story, go to Pacific Business News .
