BETHESDA, MD-Marriott International has plans to send layoff notices to a number of technology workers at its offices in Bethesda, Frederick and Gaithersburg.
The notices filed with the Maryland Labor Department state that 35 positions would be eliminated initially (by June 28), with all but one being from the Bethesda office. The company stated that by December of this year, the number of eliminated positions could rise to “several hundred,” according to the Washington Post.
In a recent blog post Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson stated in reference to the technology job cuts that some of that work would be contracted out to firms such as IBM, Xerox and Tata Consulting Services. See story in the Washington Post.
