NEW CARROLLTON, MD-The Maryland Department of General Services has picked 7800 Harkins Road as the site for a new headquarters for the state's Department of Housing and Community Development.

The state Department of Public Works is scheduled to consider a lease proposal for the new headquarters space at a meeting on May 29, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. According to the DPW's agenda, the Maryland Department of General Services has proposed a 97,332-square-foot lease deal with an affiliate of Berman Enterprises for the Harkins Road site that is located near the New Carrollton Metro.

The deal calls for Berman Enterprises to build a new four-story office building for the department's use. Construction must be completed and the space ready for the Department of Housing and Community Development's use by June 2015.

A three-member board that includes Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley must approve the lease. Under the lease proposal, the state would commit to a 15-year lease term on the space at an annual rental rate of approximately $3.9 million. See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
