ARLINGTON, VA-The local school district here is moving forward with a plan to sell a century old school here in order for it to be redeveloped as a mixed-use project.
The Arlington School District voted on Tuesday to proceed with the plan and on Wednesday reported it would appoint a working group of residents, business leaders and others to develop a redevelopment plan, according to the Washington Post. The district granted its superintendent the authority to sign a non-binding letter of intent to sell the property to developer Penzance Properties, LLC of Washington, DC.
In addition to the school on Wilson Boulevard, the area targeted for redevelopment includes a fire station, some adjacent county-owned property, an apartment building owned by the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing, and a commercial building owned by Penzance.
