JACKSONVILLE, FL-Real estate developer Ben Hakimian has purchased a parcel here totaling nearly 50 acres where he has plans to build a new shopping center.

Hakimian purchased the North Jacksonville property from VyStar Credit Union last week and now is looking to develop a retail center totaling between 200,000- to 300,000 square feet, according to the Jacksonville Daily Record.

I-95 LLC, managed by Hakimian, paid $325,000 for the 49.4-acre parcel located southeast of Interstate 95 and Pecan Park Road and north of the River City Marketplace. The credit union acquired the land in a foreclosure a few years ago.

Hakimian, who has developed 15 area shopping centers, hopes to begin construction in the next three to five years on the project. "The future may not be right for today, but the future is right for that corridor," Hakimian says. See story in the Jacksonville Daily Record.
