PHILADELPHIA-The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was expected to announce today a $50-million gift that will be used towards the construction of a $450-million outpatient center to be built at its University City campus.
The donation by the Buerger family that owns a Fort Washington financial-services firm, is the largest in the history of Children's Hospital. The new Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care, named after its chief benefactor, will become the hub for complex outpatient care in the hospital's network in Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, hospital officials state.
The donation is part of a $100-million capital campaign to help fund the development of the facility, which is expected to open in 2015. Remaining costs will be paid through additional philanthropy and money from operations. See story in the Inquirer.
