HAWTHORNE, NJ-Borough officials say they are meeting regularly with the current and former owners of the distressed 1 Washington Ave. building here to improve conditions there.

Labeled an “eyesore' by Hawthorne officials, Borough Attorney Michael Pasquale says the borough is meeting monthly with the former owner, Pan Technology and current owner One Washington Holdings, LLC over the former Pan Chemical property, according to The Record. Last year, One Washington Holdings was found guilty of nine counts of neglect that included failure to maintain and cut grass and weeds and failure to secure the vacant building.

Pasquale says that Hawthorne has taken legal action against Pan Technology and One Washington Holdings for ignoring a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's request to clean up the contaminated site. He adds that DEP is currently working with Pan Technology on a cleanup plan for the site.

"This is very positive," Pasquale said. "Although realistically the cleanup of the property can take two to three years." See story in The Record.
