BALTIMORE-After refusing to grant another extension to a developer for a large part of the downtown's west side, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said on Wednesday the city would re-start the "Superblock” project.
The mayor said the city would issue request for proposals in the fall for the long-stalled superblock venture. Rawlings-Blake denied Lexington Square Partners LLC a fourth extension to find funding for its $152-million project, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. The success of the superblock project is critical to the mayor's plan to add 10,000 families to the city in the next 10 years.
“Lexington Square was a good partner and certainly stayed the course through lawsuits and numerous reviews,” Rawlings-Blake says. “But ultimately they fell short in meeting the conditions that were necessary to close on the project.” See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
