WASHINGTON, DC-The National Trust for Historic Preservation is moving its headquarters to 35,000 square feet of space at the Watergate office building.
The trust, which announced in February it was selling its Dupont Circle headquarters building, was looking to relocate to a building with some history and settled on the property known for the most infamous burglary in the history of Washington, DC. The trust will occupy the top two floors of the Watergate.
“The selection of the Watergate demonstrates our ongoing commitment to recognizing and protecting important places from every era in American history, including the recent past,” Trust President Stephanie K. Meeks states. “We hope our decision to move to this iconic building will bring increased attention to landmarks of modern design.”
Locally based Penzance purchased the Watergate in 2011 for $76 million. See story in the Washington Post.
