ATLANTIC CITY, NJ-The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa marks the 10-year anniversary of its opening on Tuesday and still remains the dominant gaming venue here.
The Borgata, located in the Atlantic City's marina district, about a mile from the Boardwalk, recreated a Las Vegas experience not seen before at an East Coast casino when it opened on July 2, 2003 designed as an Italian village.
As it moves into its second decade of operation, new competitors in the form of gaming facilities in neighboring states as well as the onset of Internet gaming in New Jersey threaten to cut into its market share, the Associated Press reports.
Joe Lupo, Borgata senior vice president, says, "We changed the market by offering something different, what the Atlantic City rejecters wanted but weren't getting here. People told us over and over they were looking for a trade-up experience. So we gave them an experience and amenities that Atlantic City just didn't provide." See story in The Record.
