DEARBORN, MI-Developer Urban Campus Communities of Bloomfield Hills is completing work on the first student housing available since the 1970s at the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus here.

The $30-million project totals 145 units and will accommodate approximately 500 students when it opens on Sept. 1, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The project is 231,791 square feet with four interconnected buildings and is located on more than 12 acres off Evergreen Road. The complex will feature one-, two- and four-bedroom apartments that range in price from $650 per month to approximately $800 per month.

The development is currently 80% pre-leased. Larry Winokur, manager of Urban Campus Communities, is confident the student housing project will eventually be 100% leased.

“There are no real alternatives,” Winokur said. “There are more than 9,000 students, and we only need 500.” See story in the Detroit Free Press.
