TRENTON, NJ-It is uncertain if the New Jersey Supreme Court ruling this week that turned back Gov. Chris Christie's attempt to abolish the state's Council on Affordable Housing will begin to cure the backlog of affordable housing development projects in the Garden State.
New Milford Borough Administrator Christine Demiris said Thursday that it was unclear how the high court's ruling handed down a day earlier would address affordable housing issues, according to The Record.
The head of NAIOP-NJ tells globest.com that the organization's membership believes the court ruling did not address the main issue regarding affordable housing in the state of New Jersey. See story at globest.com.
In Hackensack, where proposals to rehabilitate housing units have been delayed for two years, City Manager Stephen Lo Iacono is hopeful things may now start to change. "Perhaps now that the court has ruled, the logjam will begin to clear," Lo Iacono says. See story in The Record.
