MIAMI-Although particulars about the move are sketchy at best, London-based telecommunications company Cable & Wireless Communications is planning to move its headquarters across the Atlantic to South Florida.

The report in the Miami Herald indicates that the move is based on the company's intent on focusing on providing services to the Caribbean and Central America.

“We want to be close to our customers and our competitors,'' says company spokesman Steve Smith. “Obviously Miami is a fantastic location.''

The relocation will likely take place next year. As yet, the company has not selected a global headquarters location in South Florida or determined how many employees will be working there. See story in the Miami Herald.
