NEW YORK CITY-The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, home to the Brooklyn Nets and soon to be home arena for the New York Islanders, has earned an LEED silver rating.

The 18,000-seat arena, built by Forest City Ratner Cos. earned the designation last month. Among its eco-friendly attributes include its Cor-Ten steel framework and its low-flow bathroom fixtures that help save two million gallons of water a year, according to Crain's New York Business. Approximately 91% of all the wood in the Barclays Center —including the Nets' basketball court—is certified sustainable.

"We were sustainably minded through this whole process. LEED was always the underlying goal," said Ayumi Sugiyama, project architect at SHoP, one of the two firms that designed the arena. See story in Crain's New York Business.
