TAMPA-Concerns over the amount of minority contracting firms' participation in the first phase of the makeover of the Tampa International Airport could delay the award of a $736.2-milion design-build contract.
Janet Zink, a TIA spokesperson says that minority contracting provisions in the contract might delay the award by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority. The board is scheduled to make a decision among eight proposals that have been submitted on Aug. 1.
The master plan makeover for the airport is valued at $3 billion, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
The eight firms vying for the design-build contract are: Archer Western Construction, Austin Commercial, Balfour Beatty Construction, Clark Construction Group, Hensel Phelps, Odebrecht Construction, Skanska USA Building Co., and Turner Construction. See story in the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
