NEW YORK CITY-The process to landmark as many as five buildings in Midtown East begins today.

The city's Landmark Preservation Commission was scheduled to hold a preliminary session today to consider the five properties that include the Graybar Building adjacent to Grand Central Terminal, 125 Park Ave., and three hotel properties.

The buildings are being considered together to head off any development plans that could come about as a result of upzoning being encouraged by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, according to Crain's New York Business.

The Graybar Building and 125 Park Ave. are owned by SL Green Realty Corp. The three hotels under consideration by the commission are the Lexington, the Shelton (now the Marriott) and the Beverly Hotels. The Shelton and the Beverly Hotels are now a Marriott and W Hotel respectively. See story in Crain's New York Business.
