LODI, NJ-Convenience store chain Wawa officially opened its first store in Bergen County today. The firm intends to open two more stores in North Jersey next year and 10 more by 2015.

The Pennsylvania-based retail chain intends to open new stores in Garfield and Hackensack in 2014. Wawa currently has 237 convenience stores in New Jersey, according to The Record.

Sal Mattera, the vice president of store operations at Wawa, said the company is looking to expand in the North Jersey convenience store market.

“We respect competition; there are a lot of great operators out there, but we have a blend of business that very few people can match,” Mattera said. “We are committed to a long-term strategy to open stores in North Jersey.” See story in The Record.
