WASHINGTON, DC-Mayor Vincent Gray and other administration officials have selected a group led by Houston-based Hines Interests to oversee the redevelopment of the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center here.

The city's plan calls for what will be a 67-acre property to be converted into a 3-million-square-foot town center, according to the Washington Post. Hines bested two other finalists for the master developer designation.

A plan called The Parks at Walter Reed,” developed by Hines and partners Urban Atlantic and Triden Development won the endorsement of community groups and Victor Hoskins, deputy mayor for planning and economic development.

Hines also brought in a number of other partners, including Toll Brothers and shopping center developer Weingarten Realty. The plan calls for 2,097 residential units, 250,000 square feet of retail, and 20 acres of open space. See story in the Washington Post.
