NEW YORK CITY-Macy's is planning a $400-million, four-year makeover of its flagship store here on Herald Square.
The upgrade will include improving its 111-year old façade, adding 100,000 square feet of retail space, opening up bricked-up windows, and adding 300 dressing rooms, according to the New York Times. The ongoing project when completed in 2015 will increase the store size to 1.2 million square feet.
“To continue to grow the brand, we needed to elevate the store experience,” said Macy's CEO Terry J. Lundgren. “That meant adding new brands and creating a luxury component that we didn't have before.” See story in the New York Times.
