FLORENCE, AZ-Curis Resources of Vancouver has filed a notice of claim against the town of Florence in connection with the company's copper mining project.

The lawsuit notice of a possible lawsuit is in response to legal actions taken by the town to condemn 1,200 acres of Curis Resources' land earmarked for its Florence Copper project. The town is looking to seize the property via eminent domain so it can build a wastewater treatment plant on the site, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.

“We are being forced to file a Notice of Claim against the town due to the town council's unwarranted attempt to take our private property,” said Rita Maguire, executive vice president and general counsel of Florence Copper. “As a publicly traded company, we have a fiduciary obligation to protect the interests of shareholders and that is why this action is being taken today.” See story in the Phoenix Business Journal.
