BRAMBLETON, VA-Homebuilder The Ryland Group Inc. is looking to significantly increase the scope of its planned project at Arcola Farms here.

The Westlake, CA-based firm is seeking approval from Loudoun County to rezone an 88-acre parcel to allow for more than 309 single-family homes and townhomes on the site, or approaching four homes per acre. The current zoning allows for just one home every 10 acres, according to the Washington Business Journal.

Ryland is the contract purchaser of 15 lots that make up the 88-acre site. In a statement of justification to the county, Ryland states that the property has become an “infill area” that “now needs to be planned and developed more efficiently in order to implement the county's environmental, land use and transportation policies and to eliminate dangerous existing conditions.” See story in the Washington Business Journal.
