PHOENIX-Since its purchase in April of this year, the mixed-use development CityCenter of CityNorth is attracting new tenants and filling retail vacancies.

Economic and legal issues had plagued the property since its opening in 2008. Earlier this year, Scanlan Kemper Bard Companies, a real-estate private-equity firm based in Portland, Ore., and private equity firm Wayzata Investment Partners of Wayzata, MN purchased the property for $67 million, according to the Arizona Republic. The 628,000-square-foot property includes 99 condominiums leased as apartments, 330,000 square feet of office space and 175,000 square feet of retail space.

Since that time, condo sales and retail leases have picked up. CityNorth Marketing Vice President Leslie Himley says new office tenants include two dental offices, Desert Ridge Pediatric Dentistry and Desert Ridge Prosthodontics, which both opened Sept. 3 and occupy a combined 10,000 square feet. Mojo Yogurt also opened in August.

In addition, Himley reports a 14,500-square-foot lease with Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill. The establishment is expected to open in the summer of 2014. In addition, Stealth Software, a Netherlands-based software-development company, will open its U.S. headquarters in a 4,000-square-foot space in the third quarter of next year.
