NEW YORK CITY-Thanks to some major developments in the pipeline, 125th Street in Harlem is seeing increased interest from retailers looking to secure a foothold in this emerging market.

Jeffrey Roseman, executive vice president of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, says interest from national retailers in sites along 125th Street is on the rise. “They now see and understand the importance of 125th Street as it is becoming a major shopping street,” he adds.

Roseman believes new development, including rental apartments proposed by Ian Bruce Eichner by the Metro North station at Park Avenue along with the Fairway by the West Side Highway and the upcoming Whole Foods planned at Lenox Avenue, are providing added linchpins for the 125th Street area according to the New York Post.

Initial work on the $7-billion redevelopment of Columbia University on the western side of 125th Street is also creating a buzz in the market. See story in the New York Post.
