BALTIMORE-And the winner is–MGM Resorts International. On Friday, The Maryland Video Lottery Facility Location Commission selected MGM Resorts as the winning bidder for the right to build a new casino in Prince George's County.

MGM CEO Jim Murren says the firm is shooting for a mid-2016 opening for the planned $925-million MGM National Harbor resort. The commission selected MGM as the winning bidder in a 5-2 vote, according to the Washington Business Journal.

Murren says MGM National Harbor will be the most profitable casino in the United States outside of Las Vegas, because of its three major airports, its location and because Virginia, home to National Harbor's most important client base, "won't have gambling in my lifetime."

The MGM proposal bested Greenwood Racing Inc.'s Parx Casino Hotel & Spa in Fort Washington and Penn National Gaming Inc.'s Hollywood Casino at Rosecroft. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
