NEW YORK CITY-Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed a lease on Thursday transferring 12 acres of land on Roosevelt Island for a futuristic graduate level college and technology hub.

Cornell University and Technion-Israel Institute of Technology will jointly develop the Cornell Tech School that will be built south of the Queensboro Bridge. The lease term with the city for the property runs 99 years, according to the New York Post.

A groundbreaking for the venture will take place next month. Plans call for a first phase that will include four buildings, one for academics and another that will host classrooms and space for technology start-ups. Also included will be a 27-story residential tower. The phase also will have an executive education center that will include a hotel. Classes at the Roosevelt Island site are scheduled to begin in 2017. See story in the New York Post.
