HOUSTON-Locally-based Finger Cos. has broken ground on its new rental apartment project near Minute Maid Park.

The developer announced on Friday that it had begun the seven-story, 400-unit complex at 500 Crawford. The project is to be built on two blocks west of Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros major league baseball franchise. On one of the blocks at the project site was the 10-story Ben Milam Hotel, which was demolished last year, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The 500 Crawford project is designed by Atlanta-based Niles Bolton Associates. The design will feature stone, stucco and a decorative iron exterior, according to Finger Cos., which will conform with the design of Minute Maid Park. See story in the Houston Chronicle.
