ALEXANDRIA, VA-Abramson Properties is looking to build a 628,000-square-foot mixed-use development at the former site of the Jefferson Memorial Hospital complex.

The project to be developed at 4600 King St. calls for 439 residential units, some office space, a 144-key hotel and retail, including a 62,000-square-foot grocery store, according to the Washington Business Journal.

"It's where Fairfax, Arlington and Alexandria meet," said Danny Abramson, president of locally-based Abramson Properties. "It's truly the entrance to Alexandria coming east." Abramson has submitted a concept plan for the project.

The project is being positioned as transit-oriented, although it is not within walking distance of Metro. The project would require a zone change to break ground. See story in the Washington Business Journal.
